POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Sports Director, this position will officiate at sporting events, games, or competitions, to maintain standards of play and to ensure that game rules are observed and will create a safe and positive environment that promotes member safety and engagement with YMCA policies and procedures.
Maintain constant surveillance of playing area. Enforces rules and manages the area/ assists in score-keeping duties and referee duties during youth/adult games. Set up and tear down equipment, scoreboard, and keep track of points, time, and quarters, periods. Assist with general facility maintenance and perform other duties as assigned/ checks the area for hazardous conditions when arriving. Knows all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Attends all staff meetings and training as required.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, and/or EXPERIENCE Minimum age of 18 years of age. Must have knowledge of the sport he/she is refereeing and be skilled to officiate. Bilingual desired. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations. Experience with youth/teen development and parent relations. Excellent organizational skills, initiative, and a proactive attitude. excellent verbal communication skills. Able to communicate effectively with YMCA staff, youth, parents, school staff, community partners and volunteers.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Within the first 30 days of employment: CPR/AED, and First Aid; Child Abuse prevention training Blood borne pathogens training as required. Live scan clearance. (Certifications need to remain current during employment.)
