The Y has an opening for a Preschool Teacher at our licensed site at Fairgrove school in Grover Beach.
Part time, 25-29 hours a week
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Preschool Childcare Director, the Preschool Teacher is responsible for the supervision, safety and well-being of preschool school students involved in the SLO YMCA preschool programs and events. The Preschool Teacher will focus on teaching letter recognition and cognition, learning socialization skills, values, supervising the children and interacting with parents/guardians. This position will foster connections with youth that help instill community values within the goals and objectives of the San Luis Obispo County YMCA.
• Creative, flexible, and proactive in the development of all aspects of YMCA programs. • Willing to collaborate with school/ community organizations, agencies, volunteers and citizens. • Continually take an active role in providing safe conditions at all sites and events. • Remain with the participants while they are signed into the YMCA site, program, or event. • Prepare and submit timely and age appropriate lesson plans and implement. • Keep accurate daily sign in/out sheets. • Assist with completion of reports, documentation, accident/incidents forms, etc. • Communicate problems and concerns to the Preschool Childcare Director. • Maintain accurate time sheet. • With assistance of the Preschool Childcare Director. • Maintain current certifications. • Maintain a clean and tidy work space and child care room/spaces. • Follow and respect school/facility property and rules. • Provide courteous, prompt, and sincere attention to participants and parent/guardians.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, and/or EXPERIENCE: • Minimum of 18 years of age. • 12-15 ECE Units or equivalent (Child/Human Growth & Development; child, Family and Community and Curriculum) or AA of BA in either Child Development or Early Childhood Education • Bilingual Spanish desired. • Experience/ability to facilitate and communicate with diverse groups of children. • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations. • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations. Assist with fundraising. • Y Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred. • Experience with youth/teen development and parent relations. • Good organizational skills, initiative, and a proactive attitude. • Good verbal communication skills. Able to communicate effectively with YMCA staff, youth, parents, school staff, community partners and volunteers.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: • Live scan clearance. • Due within 30 days of hire: CPR/First Aid/AED certificate, and child abuse prevention training • Blood borne pathogens as required. • Health screening and current TB Test as required by law. (Certifications need to remain current during employment.)
