POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Preschool Childcare Director, the Preschool Teacher is responsible for the supervision, safety and well being of preschool school students involved in the SLO YMCA preschool programs and events. The Preschool Teacher will focus on teaching letter recognition and cognition, learning socialization skills, values, supervising the children and interacting with parents/guardians. This position will foster connections with youth that help instill community values within the goals and objectives of the San Luis Obispo County YMCA.
• Creative, flexible, and proactive in the development of all aspects of YMCA programs. • Willing to collaborate with school and community organizations, agnecies, volunteers and citizens. • Continually take an active role in providing safe conditions at all sites and events. • Remain with the participants while they are signed into the YMCA site, program, or event. • Prepare and submit timely and age appropriate lesson • Keep accurate daily sign in/out sheets. • Assist with completion of reports, documentation, accident/incidents forms, etc. • Maintain accurate personnel time sheet and turn it in to the Preschool Childcare Director at end of pay period. • Maintain current certifications. • Wear staff uniform (shirt & name tag). • Maintain a clean and tidy work space and child care room/spaces.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, and/or EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 18 years of age. 12 ECE Units or equivalent (Child/Human Growth; Child Development; child, Family and Community and Curriculum) or AA of BA in either Child Development or Early Childhood Education. Bilingual desired. Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff Experience/ability to facilitate and communicate with diverse groups of children. Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations. Experience with child/youth/teen development and parent relations. Good organizational skills, initiative, and a proactive attitude. Good verbal communication skills. Able to communicate effectively with YMCA staff, youth, parents, school staff, community partners and volunteers.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: • Live scan clearance. • Due within 30 days of hire: CPR/First Aid/AED certificate, and child abuse prevention training • Blood borne pathogens as required. • Health screening and current TB Test/immunizations as required by law. (Certifications need to remain current during employment.)
