The San Luis Obispo County Y has an opening for a full time, exempt, benefit eligible Sports Director!
Under the supervision of the COO and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, and consistent with the San Luis Obispo County YMCA's mission, the Sports Programs Director is responsible for the administration, supervision, program development and implementation of a successful YMCA Youth and Adult Sports Program, including but not limited to Lacrosse, Roller Hockey, Futsal, Flag Football, Basketball, and T-Ball/Coach Pitch, SLO/SC Bitty Sports, 5 Cities Youth Basketball, South County Skate Park, and other sports programs as assigned. This includes recruiting, training and supporting volunteers (coaches and interns); recruiting participants, organizing teams, registration, equipment; scheduling meetings and games, facilities, and personnel. This position is also responsible to develop and maintain a successful program budget; including program and team sponsorshipsWith the support of the COO, responsible for development of annual department budget.
Maintain control of expense and revenue to achieve monthly budgeted net.
Report monthly financial status, with plans for necessary adjustments in a timely manner.
Keep accurate records of all revenue and expenses.
Operate at all times within the policies of the Organization.
Insure participants are current with their scheduled payments.
Responsible for securing program and team sponsorship's, and grants to support program services.
Responsible to contribute to the success of the Annual Support Campaign.
Develop and plan new programs based on trends and the needs of the community.
Responsible for high quality program delivery consistent with YMCA program standards.
Responsible for the development and implementation of all youth, adult sports and community programming within the San Luis Obispo and surrounding community, in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities.
Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices; monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment as budget permits.
Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.
Purchases and distributes team uniforms and awards; coordinates and distributes team photographs.
Assists in the marketing and distribution of youth and adult sports program information;
Organize and schedules program registrations.
Responsible for overall growth and evaluation of the SLO & SC Sports and Community
Develop annual calendars for each program in coordination with organization programming.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with the community at large, specifically with those entities related to the program area. Collaborate with school and community organizations and citizens.
Develops and disperses appropriate press releases, brochures, and announcements
Responsible for the recruitment, screening, training, appreciation and supervision of Sports Coordinator or other Y staff; volunteer staff, including but not limited to coaches and officials.
Conducts annual performance reviews for program staff.
Provide leadership for special events, promotions, and community awareness activities.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education & 2 years' experience.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be able to drive own vehicle, valid insurance/Driver's License and clear driving record.
Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, sports, public relations, program development and fundraising.
Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations.
Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
Y Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred.
Excellent organizational skills, initiative, and a proactive attitude.
Excellent verbal communication skills. Able to communicate effectively with YMCA staff, youth, parents, school staff, community partners and volunteers.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid and Child Abuse Prevention training.
Bloodborne pathogens training as required.
Valid driver's license/car registration.
Clear livescan (fingerprints) report.
Certifications need to remain current during employment.
