Under the supervision of the Sports Director, in cooperation with other YMCA staff, and consistent with the San Luis Obispo County YMCA's mission, the Sports Programs Assistant is responsible for assisting in the administration, supervision, program development and implementation of successful YMCA Youth and Adult Sports Programs. These programs includes but are not limited to Roller Hockey, Futsal, Basketball, and T-Ball/Coach Pitch, SLO/SC Bitty Sports, 5 Cities Youth Basketball, South County Skate Park, and other sports programs as assigned. Duties include assisting with recruitment and support for other employees, volunteers (coaches and interns); recruiting participants, organizing teams, registration, equipment; scheduling meetings and games, facilities, and personnel.
Provide leadership for program special events, promotions and community activities. Work with community organizations and schools to promote and collaborate for the benefit of Y youth sports programming.
Contribute to the overall health of the organization through special events and activities. Assist with overall program development/growth and evaluation. Assist with assessing and addressing needs of local communities, schools and parents. Assist with executing creative, high-quality program delivery. Assist with developing program curriculum, including weekly and monthly calendars. Assist with evaluating the success of program curriculum. Continue all standards, records and procedures required by state and local agencies. Conduct all public relations and Y promotion with a positive image within the communities we serve. Represent the YMCA and maintain a professional and positive relationship with school principals, staff, parents and other community partners. Assure the accurate and timely completion, communication to supervisor and follow-up
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, and/or EXPERIENCE: Must be minimum of 21 years of age as per insurance carrier Sports background/training in one or more sports; refereeing and/or coaching desired. Bi-lingual Spanish desired. Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations. Experience with youth/teen development and parent relations. Good organizational skills, initiative, and a proactive attitude. Good verbal communication skills. Able to communicate effectively with YMCA staff, youth, parents, school staff, community partners and volunteers. A commitment to the goals and philosophy of the YMCA. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Must be able to drive own vehicle, valid insurance/Driver's License and clear driving record. Remain insurable during employment.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: • Live scan clearance. • Within the first 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid certificate, Child Abuse Prevention training • Blood borne pathogens training as required • Valid drivers license, car insurance (Certifications need to remain current during employment.)
