The Leadership Development Program (LDP) is a progressive leadership training program designed to provide an educational and fun environment where participants can develop their leadership skills. At the end of the LDP, participants will take with them personal confidence, group facilitation skills, program planning and implementation knowledge, life-long friendships and much more.
LDP provides an innovative curriculum intended to promote the Y's values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility and to challenge the participants to be positive role models, members of society, leaders in their communities, and potential future camp staff members.
This program is open to youth entering 8th-12th grade. At the beginning of each session, LDP participants will go on a retreat style training trip to learn about topics such as time-fillers, on-the spot games, lesson planning, giving directions, and speaking to groups. In addition to at-camp skills, all participants will learn life skills to prepare them to eventually enter the working world. They all will be challenged to set and meet goals throughout the program, practice good work ethics, and be a positive mentor to all participants. For the rest of the session, LDP’s will be integrated at their Summer Day Camp Site and help counselors mentor youth entering K-3rd grade and run camp.
All interested youth will be interviewed and must provide two references from a teacher, counselor or other mentor.
