Sports Program Leader
$14.50-$16.50 per hour

Under the supervision of the Sports Program Director and/or Sports Program Coordinator, the Sports Program Leader is responsible for the supervision, safety, and wellbeing of youth participating in a variety of sports programs located in San Luis Obispo County. The position supports the Sports Program Director and/or Sports Program Coordinator for being consistent with the sports program objectives and the YMCA mission.
1. Come to work with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
2. Supervises a group of assigned children.
3. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
4. Follows CDC and County Department of Health standards, procedures and recommendations provided to them around health screening, physical distancing, and sanitizing.
5. Keeps assigned areas neat, clean, organized, sanitized, and free of clutter.
6. Actively walk-through facility/program engaging with members/participants, keeping vigilant for potential health and/or safety risks, and cleans/disinfect and put away equipment and supplies.
7. Ensures that all equipment/supplies are in working order. If not, prompt action (or request for action) is taken.
8. Provide courteous, prompt, and sincere attention to participants and parent(s).
9. Assist with the planning, developing and leading recreational and enhancement program activities for all participants, including those with special needs.
10. Provide instruction at the appropriate level.
11. Respond to all feedback in a courteous and timely fashion.
12. Treat other staff members, school personnel, volunteers, parent(s), and participants with courtesy and respect.
13. Keep supervisor informed of decisions and unresolved situation and/or issues.
14. Remain with the participants while they are signed into the program.
15. Continually take an active role in providing safe conditions at the site.
16. Be supportive of the YMCA’s inclusive recreation program.
17. Keep accurate daily records as required by site.
18. Maintain positive reinforcement for each child and willingness to work with Sire Director and parents to enhance each child’s experience in the program.
19. Attend staff training and all required staff meetings.
20. Use program resources efficiently and ecologically.
21. Other duties/projects as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Document any accident/injury/incident on the Incident Report Form ass appropriate
• Work with a positive and enthusiastic attitude
• Willing to collaborate with school, community organizations and citizens
• Flexible and willing to work with other sites when needed
• Use program resources efficiently and ecologically
• Follows all Workers Comp/Accident Report procedures through completion of claim
• Attend staff training and all staff meetings as required
• Other duties/projects as assigned by the Site Director
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, TALENTS, and ABILITIES:
• Youth -- Experience with youth, their needs, and development strategies. Desire to have a meaningful effect on and build assets in the lives of attendees. Direct experience working with children in an active recreational and developmental atmosphere.
• Development -- Willingness to participate in opportunities that serve to develop staff in the area of youth development. Desire to work with and supervise young people in a setting that provides them with a variety of choices.
• Member and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing professional member and personal services. This includes internal and external customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of member satisfaction. Great customer service attitude.
• Communication — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Ability to provide clear & useful information in a gracious, respectful, and helpful manner to the public, vendors, members, supervisors, and co-workers, in written form, via e-mail, and in person.
• Coordination — Understanding the relationship of all positions to each other, and their impact on the culture and meeting the organization’s goals. Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions, i.e., team work.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, and/or EXPERIENCE:
1. Must be at least 18 years of age, 21 years old desired
2. Bi-lingual Spanish desired
3. Wide range of sports knowledge. Previous instructor experience preferred.
4. Experience/ability to facilitate and communicate with diverse groups of children.
5. Direct experience working with youth in an active recreational and developmental setting and a sincere desire to have a meaningful effect on the lives of youth
6. Experience with team building and youth development strategies.
7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
8. Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations.
9. Good organizational skills, initiative and proactive attitude

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid and Child Abuse Prevention training.
Blood borne pathogens and concussion training as required.
Clear live scan (fingerprints) report.
Certifications need to remain current during employment.

Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings. Must be able to respond audibly and communicate for assistance in an emergency.
