Locally, the San Luis Obispo County YMCA was formed in 1956 by a group of volunteers who saw a need for childcare and family programs in the county. Today, we are the county’s largest provider of before and after school care, pre-school, and summer camps. Our family-friendly fitness center in San Luis Obispo offers programs and classes for all ages and our sports programs develop teamwork, improve confidence, and encourage healthy lifestyles. Through our childcare programs, Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) Curriculum, service learning projects, fitness and sports programs, and financial assistance program we are working to develop our youth, improve our health, and better our community. The Y does not turn anyone away due to inability to pay. A volunteer Board of Directors oversees governance of the association.
